This rule is established to govern the order, decorum, and dress of those who have business in the Champaign County Municipal Court.
All persons entering the Court shall dress in appropriate clothing. No one will be permitted in the Courtroom dressed in any of the following: shorts, halter or strapless tops, midriffs, pajamas, clothing with obscene or derogatory language, or any other clothing deemed inappropriate by the Court. No person shall wear any hat or headpiece, unless required by religious belief or medical purposes. If represented by Counsel, it shall be the duty of Counsel to advise the parties and witnesses of this Rule prior to his or her appearance in Court.
No person shall consume food, gum, or beverages in the Courtroom unless approved by the Court.
No smoking or vaping is allowed in the Courthouse.
The Court may seek the removal of any person wearing attire not compliant with this Rule, or displaying any placards, photographs, signs or any other image that is disrespectful to the rule of law, or contains words or images likely to incite others in disorderly conduct, or may cause prejudice to a litigant.
